Four Square
Fun!
We are trying a new schedule
this year at our campus. We carved out
an hour and a half per month that our teachers will participate in PLC (Professional
Learning Community) Activities. The
first one went very well, and we gave our teachers an opportunity to plan,
since many of our teachers changed grade levels. Future PLCs will include vertical planning,
honing in on teacher craft, and targeting critical need areas. The part I am most excited about is that our
students are receiving a wealth of enrichment activities while their teachers
are planning. We have our communities in
school person, parent liaison, intervention teachers, counselor, librarian, nurse,
and Gifted & Talented teacher who provide our enrichment lessons. Our students receive guidance, health,
community service, enrichment, math & reading activities.
This gives me an opportunity
to meet with my math intervention teacher to prep and plan an engaging math
game. This game (Four
Square Math Game) helps students build number sense and practice
operations. Thie rules of the game are
that they can use any operation, add/subtract/multiply/divide to make any of
the four square numbers to move to the next four square box. These are third graders and wanted to add
every time to get the desired solution.
They quickly realized
they needed to try other operations or they would be on the start block while
others moved forward.
The intervention
teacher (Mrs. Shinny Shin Shin) helped some struggling students to subtract the
numbers rolled.. That was an OHHHH
moment. The kids loved the game and it
makes for a great math center/tub for two to four players.
I’ve included an
addition only game board for those primary teachers. I’m always looking for ways to improve my
activities, so any feedback is appreciated.
Add it to your math center/tub today! Four Square Math
Game
The next fun
activity for our PLC time is a whole class game I use as a brain break or finished
early activity. I’ve played this game
with all grade levels and the kids will be begging to play anytime you have a
spare moment. Let’s Play Pig!

ReplyDeleteFour Square was a good game for all levels of players. I enjoyed walking around and hearing the AAAHHHH moments. Can't wait to teach and learn with the next game.
